Building consensus for a harm reduction approach to the use of drugs and alcohol in universities

Aim: This cross-faculty project will build on a partnership with Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK). The study aims: to learn lessons from universities which have introduced harm reduction approaches/ interventions; to draw on organisational theory and diffusion theory to identify and examine key factors relevant to achieving organisational change; and to exchange knowledge and share learning with universities and communities across the country.

Methods: The study will use focus groups with university students, interviews with key informants in nine universities which have implemented harm reduction policies and interviews with six key informants in universities which have considered/ or rejected harm reduction approaches.
