The Drug and Alcohol Research Centre is proud to host this film screening and panel discussion which presents the inspiring real-life stories of recovery from the 2018 Recovery Street Film Festival. The Festival supports people with lived experience of addiction and recovering from drug or alcohol addiction to tell their story, whether directly affected or through a loved one.
The festival demonstrates through the film and storytelling the diverse issues that are faced by people overcoming addiction and how those around them can be affected. The aim is to empower people affected by addiction to use their voice. These stories highlight the problems and joys of finding a positive role in society: to gain new friends, to revive links with family, secure a home and get a job. Over the last 5 years, these stories have reached many thousands of people, educating those with little experience of addiction and recovery and inspiring those on their own recovery journey.
